I am a registered member of BACP and an accredited member of UKCP. I have an MSc in Gestalt psychotherapy from the University of Middlesex/Metanoia Institute and and a Postgraduate Diploma in Child Counselling from the University of East London/Place2Be.
I have over six years' experience of providing therapy to adults in a number of diverse settings including the NHS, a bereavement service, women's centres and private agencies. I am a volunteer counsellor in two charitable organisations providing subsidised therapeutic services to adults. I also have over two years' experience of counselling children, mostly within schools. I currently volunteer with a service dedicated to supporting children who have experienced sexual abuse and/or sexual exploitation.
I have worked with clients aged from 5 to 77. I have come to appreciate that although the issues they face have a universal flavour, each individual is truly unique. I feel privileged to have come to know each one of them a little; they have taught me so much.
My approach to therapy is primarily founded on Gestalt psychotherapy; however I have also learned to value the contribution of psychodynamic and person-centred theories. I am completing a Diploma in Contemporary Trauma Practice and later this year will begin my Level 1 training in Internal Family Systems Therapy. I hold a Practitioner Certificate in Addiction and Eating Disorders from the Metanoia Institute and a Provisional Certificate in Sand Play Therapy Skills from Play Therapy UK.
My previous career was City-based. I worked for over twenty years as a Group Tax Director for several quoted multinational groups following qualification as a chartered tax accountant and chartered tax advisor with KPMG and PwC. I am well acquainted with the challenges of a work hard/play hard culture as well as the joys and worries of juggling a demanding professional career with the rollercoaster of family life.
